Reiki for anxiety, a calmer nervous system in Los Angeles

Anxious adults across Los Angeles describe a baseline that never fully quiets: racing thoughts, a compressed chest, emotional flooding at small triggers. Reiki for anxiety at our West Hollywood studio works at the nervous-system level, as a complementary support alongside therapy and medication, never a replacement for either. Jaime and Yonatan Elkayam are Certified Reiki Master Teachers who help clients move through that bracing state toward something calmer.

Anxiety & The Nervous System

Does reiki really help with anxiety?

Reiki supports the body's shift from sympathetic activation into parasympathetic rest, the nervous-system state that anxiety keeps you locked out of. It is not a medical treatment for anxiety disorders and it does not diagnose or treat anxiety. It works as a complement alongside therapy and medication, never instead of either. Clients commonly report calmer sleep, steadier breathing, and less reactivity after regular sessions.

This session is for anxious professionals who feel wired but exhausted, for clients already in therapy who want a body-based complement, and for anyone whose anxiety shows up as a racing mind or a chest that will not unclench. Many clients arrive skeptical. You do not need to believe reiki works for your nervous system to respond.

How It Works

How reiki supports an anxious nervous system

Anxiety keeps the body in sympathetic dominance: elevated cortisol, compressed breathing, muscles braced for a threat that is not actually present. A reiki session invites the parasympathetic response instead.

  • Eases sympathetic activation

Clients describe warmth, a sudden deepening of breath, or the sense of their shoulders actually dropping as the body shifts out of fight-or-flight.

  • Works through hand positions, not conversation

The practitioner works with hand positions along the energy centers, hovering just above or resting gently on the body. Your nervous system responds before your brain decides.

  • Trauma-aware and non-invasive

Sessions are paced to your body, not a fixed protocol. Hands-off work is equally effective for clients who are sensitive to touch or in active trauma treatment.

  • A complement, not a replacement

Reiki works alongside therapy, medication, and EMDR. It is not positioned as a substitute for professional mental-health or medical care.

A short intake conversation

Where do you feel your anxiety in your body right now? This calibrates the session. It is not therapy.

3

The session begins

Jaime or Yonatan works through hand positions along the chakra system. Many clients notice a breath shift within fifteen minutes.

4

Integration before you leave

No jarring return. Tea, a few minutes to land, and time to talk through what came up before you go.

This level of comfort, trust, and at homeness in my body is beyond what I knew was possible. The way I talk to people, connect on the dance floor, and hold eye contact has all changed.

Good Questions

Reiki for anxiety, answered

Honest answers about safety, medication, trauma therapy, and what to expect in a session.

No. Reiki is a complementary practice. It does not replace therapy and it does not replace psychiatric medication. It works alongside both. If anxiety is interfering with your daily functioning, please work with a licensed mental-health provider. Reiki can be part of your support system, not the whole of it.
Yes, with a simple adjustment. Reiki does not generate electrical current or interfere with pacemaker function. Your practitioner works with hands hovering above the body rather than making direct contact near the device. Let us know before your session, and check with your cardiologist if you have questions about your specific device.
Yes. Reiki is non-invasive and has no known interaction with any psychiatric medication. It is positioned as a complementary practice, working alongside medication rather than replacing it. Let your practitioner know what you are taking so they can note any patterns across sessions.
Yes. Many of our clients are in active trauma treatment. Reiki works at a body-energy layer that does not conflict with EMDR or trauma-focused therapy. Some therapists refer clients to us directly as a body-based complement. If you are in an intensive phase, let us know and we will keep sessions gentle and grounding.
No. Many of our most consistent clients were skeptics when they walked in. You do not have to believe anything. You just have to be willing to lie down for about an hour and give your nervous system the chance to respond.
Most anxious clients feel a shift after one session. One session will not resolve chronic anxiety on its own. For persistent anxiety we typically recommend weekly sessions for four to six weeks, then monthly maintenance as your nervous system builds a new baseline. Results vary.
