Sound healing for sleep in West Hollywood: help your body finally power down

Insomnia, 3am wake-ups, shallow sleep that leaves you exhausted even after eight hours. Private sound healing for sleep at our West Hollywood studio uses low-frequency gongs, ocean drums, sustained drones, breathwork, and reiki to quiet a nervous system that will not settle on its own. Sessions run at our private Melrose studio with Certified Reiki Master Teachers Jaime and Yonatan Elkayam.

The Practice

Does sound healing help you sleep?

Sound healing can support deeper sleep by helping the nervous system shift out of the high-alert states that block restful sleep onset. Live low-frequency instruments activate the parasympathetic nervous system and support the brainwave transition toward delta sleep states. Many clients report faster sleep onset and a quieter first half of the night after an evening session.

Sound healing is complementary to, and not a replacement for, medical sleep care. If you have a diagnosed sleep disorder, please continue working with your physician alongside any wellness sessions.

Why It Works

How sound waves shift you toward deep sleep

Sleep loss rarely has one cause: a mind that loops through the day for an hour after lying down, a 3am wake-up with no path back to sleep, or a body that is exhausted but will not power down. Sound healing for sleep works differently from a noise-blocking app. Live instruments create a frequency field your nervous system enters rather than performs to.

  • A sustained frequency field

Low-frequency gongs, tamboura, and ocean drums sustain tones the body can entrain to. This is not background music, it is a physiological invitation to slow down.

  • Brainwave entrainment

Your brain naturally synchronizes to rhythmic external frequencies. Sustained low frequencies guide it from beta, the waking and alert state, toward alpha and then theta.

  • Vagal activation lowers cortisol

Slow, resonant sound stimulates the vagus nerve. Heart rate slows, cortisol drops, and the body signals that it is safe to rest.

  • The delta-sleep threshold opens up

As cortisol falls and the parasympathetic state deepens, the body moves toward the brainwave range associated with deep, restorative sleep. You are not forcing sleep, you are removing the obstacle. Reiki adds a second layer of support: explore reiki for sleep alongside sound.

Private, Not a Group Class

Private session versus group sound bath for sleep

A sleep-targeted session is a different product from a general relaxation event. Here is what sets a private session apart.

Format

Private sessions are 1-on-1 or 1-on-2 in our Melrose loft, not twenty to sixty people on mats in a shared studio.

Instrument Selection

Instruments are chosen for your nervous system and sleep goal in real time, not a fixed set built for a general audience.

Modality Depth

Sound, reiki, breathwork, and tea in a single session. A group event is typically sound only, with an occasional meditation intro.

Descent, Not a Journey

A general sound bath optimizes for relaxing. A sleep-targeted session optimizes for nervous-system descent, paced specifically toward rest.

Your Visit

What a sleep-focused session looks like

1

Tea arrival

You arrive at our cozy private loft off Melrose. We pour tea and let you decompress before anything begins.

2

Breathwork opens the descent

A short guided breathwork sequence settles the nervous system before sound begins. Jaime leads this portion, pacing it toward rest rather than energy.

3

Low gongs and sustained drone

Yonatan sizes and tunes large gongs to a deep, sustained frequency, alongside tamboura, ocean drum, and soft vocal toning late in the session as you settle further.

4

Quiet closing

No jarring ending. If you drift off, that means the session is working, Yonatan simply continues and adjusts to support you staying there.

Evening bookings between 5 and 8pm correlate with better same-night sleep, giving the nervous-system shift time to settle before bedtime.

Good Questions

Sound healing for sleep, answered

Honest answers about falling asleep during the session, medication, timing, and what a session can and cannot do.

It is both, but the relaxation is physiological. Live instruments at low frequencies activate the parasympathetic nervous system through entrainment and vagal stimulation. Most clients report faster sleep onset and deeper first-half sleep after an evening session. Results vary, and sound healing is not a medical sleep treatment.
That is fine. Falling asleep during the session means the session is working. Yonatan continues playing and adjusts the instrument selection to support you staying in that state rather than waking you. You will not miss anything by sleeping through it.
Sound healing is generally compatible with sleep medications. We are not a medical practice and cannot advise on medication interactions. If you are uncertain, check with your prescriber before coming. We never recommend changing or reducing medication without physician guidance.
Yes, evening sessions correlate with better same-night sleep. If possible, book between 5 and 8pm so the nervous-system shift has time to settle before bedtime. Morning sessions are also available and carry benefit, but evening timing works best for sleep-specific goals.
Gongs can be intense at full volume in a live setting. For sleep-specific sessions, Yonatan plays large gongs at lower amplitude and longer sustain, more like a deep hum than a crash. If you are particularly sensitive to loud sounds, mention it when you book.
Yes. These are some of the most common reasons clients book. Postpartum hormonal shifts, grief, and burnout all dysregulate the nervous system in ways that disrupt sleep without an obvious single cause. Sound healing addresses the nervous system, not the diagnosis, and we recommend continuing any concurrent medical or therapeutic care alongside sessions.
Private sessions run $250 to $350 for 60 to 90 minutes. Many clients notice a difference the first night, and a sustained pattern shift usually takes three to six sessions over four to eight weeks depending on stress load and sleep environment.
