Sound healing for stress in West Hollywood: quiet the noise your body has been carrying

Chronic stress, a mind that will not quiet down, and a nervous system stuck in overdrive: this is what sound healing at our West Hollywood studio is built for. Private sessions use singing bowls, gongs, tamboura, and vocals for deep nervous-system relaxation, led personally by Yonatan Elkayam, Certified Reiki Master Teacher with thirty years of musical study.

The Practice

Does sound healing help with chronic stress?

Yes. Sound healing supports stress relief by encouraging a shift toward the parasympathetic nervous system through acoustic resonance and vibration. When specific frequencies interact with the body, many clients describe a release, as though a pressure valve had opened. Research on sound and the parasympathetic response is still early and individual results vary, but the shift many clients feel in the room is real to them.

Sound healing is a complementary practice. It works alongside medical and mental-health care, not instead of it, and it does not diagnose or treat any condition.

Why It Works

How sound healing eases stress in the body

Stress that has settled into the body responds to more than words. Word of Mouth layers specific instruments and frequencies to meet stress where it lives, in the nervous system and the muscles that hold tension long after the stressful moment has passed.

  • The vagus nerve responds to sound

The vagus nerve, the body's main parasympathetic pathway, responds directly to sound vibration in the throat and chest. Vocal toning and tamboura are chosen in part because they reach this pathway directly.

  • Low tones settle tension in the body

Gongs, ocean drums, and tamboura create sustained low tones that physically vibrate through the chest, hips, and shoulders, often the first places stress is felt to loosen.

  • Clear tones interrupt a racing mind

Crystal and Tibetan singing bowls and chimes produce clean, layered overtones that support mental clarity and can interrupt racing-thought patterns without feeling sharp or agitating. Reiki for stress works with the same nervous-system pattern through touch instead of sound, and pairs well alongside a sound session.

  • A session built around your state, not a script

Instruments are chosen and layered in real time based on where your nervous system is that day, whether that means peak-performance focus, emotional release, or physical restoration.

Your Visit

What a stress-focused sound healing session looks like

1

Arrival and ceremonial tea

You arrive at the Melrose studio and are offered a cup of tea. There is no rush to begin. The transition from the outside world starts here.

2

A brief check-in

Yonatan or Jaime checks in on where you are holding stress and what your nervous system needs that day. This takes a few minutes and shapes the session.

3

The sound session

You lie comfortably on a mat or treatment table while live sound fills the room for 60 to 90 minutes. Instruments are chosen and layered in real time based on your state.

4

Integration

The sound fades gradually. You are given time to return at your own pace, with a brief grounding check-in to close the session.

Every session is private, one practitioner to one client or one couple. We do not offer group sound baths at this studio.

Because I'm working on my whole self all in one place, every stretch is more effective, every conversation is more meaningful, and the relaxation and calm I'm able to achieve from our sessions is completely enveloping.

Good Questions

Sound healing for stress in Los Angeles, answered

Honest answers about safety, format, and what a stress-focused sound healing session can and cannot do.

Epilepsy is a contraindication for some sound healing formats. Flashing lights and certain rhythmic patterns can trigger seizures. Sound alone is generally lower risk, but we ask clients with epilepsy to consult their neurologist before booking a private session.
Many pregnant clients receive sound healing sessions safely. We avoid sustained low-frequency gong tones directly over the abdomen. Please let us know you are pregnant when you book so we can adjust the instrument selection and your body position.
Yes, and yes. Many clients drift into a sleep-adjacent state. That is the deep-relaxation brainwave range doing exactly what it is supposed to do. You do not need to stay awake to benefit.
Comfortable clothes you would wear to a yoga class. No shoes in the studio. Bring nothing special. Tea, water, and a blanket are provided.
We only offer private sessions. No strangers, no event-calendar scheduling, no performance energy in the room. Just you and a practitioner, in a cozy Melrose loft. Read more on our private sound bath page.
Yes. Sound and reiki layer well together. Ask for the combined session when you book. Both Jaime and Yonatan hold Certified Reiki Master Teacher credentials, so the combination is something we do regularly.
Most clients notice something meaningful in their first session. For ongoing stress, coming monthly or bi-monthly tends to build a cumulative effect. We do not prescribe a fixed frequency.
