Therapist Burnout · West Hollywood

Therapist burnout is real, and it is your turn to receive

You spend your week holding space for other people's nervous systems. Compassion fatigue, secondary trauma, and a caseload that keeps growing while your own restoration practice stays the same are occupational realities, not a personal failing. Word of Mouth offers restorative, body-based support for therapists and other helping professionals in West Hollywood: reiki, breathwork, and coaching that reach the layer talk alone does not always move. This is complementary support, not clinical treatment, and it works alongside your own therapy and supervision, never in place of them.

The Honest Picture

Therapist burnout is common, and it is not a personal failing

Therapist burnout shows up after years of doing work you believe in. It is what happens when a nervous system spends all week regulating other people's and never gets a turn to be regulated itself. Compassion fatigue and secondary traumatic stress are named in the clinical literature for a reason: they are occupational realities of the helping professions, not a sign that you are bad at your job or unsuited to it.

Most therapists we work with are excellent self-analysts. That is exactly why insight alone often is not enough. You can name your own patterns, your triggers, your professional persona, and still feel emptied out at the end of the day. That is because the weight of the week lives in the body, in the jaw, the shoulders, the breath, at a level that understanding alone does not always reach. Word of Mouth offers restorative reiki, breathwork, and coaching built for people who talk for a living and need something that works underneath the talking.

The Signs

Signs your body is asking for something talk cannot reach

Burnout in the helping professions rarely announces itself all at once. More often it accumulates, one full caseload at a time, until it is simply the water you swim in. These are the patterns we hear most often from the therapists and practitioners who come to us.

  • Finishing the day emptied out, not energized

The last session of the day leaves you depleted rather than fulfilled, even in work you find meaningful.

  • Compassion fatigue with no release valve

Secondary trauma and countertransference accumulate across the week with nowhere to put them down.

  • Your own therapy gives insight that does not move

You understand the pattern intellectually, but the body has not caught up to what the mind already knows.

  • Jaw tension, shallow breathing, chronic tightness

Physical tightness that does not resolve with rest, a vacation, or a weekend off.

  • A caseload that grew while your restoration did not

The demands on you have expanded steadily, while the practices that refill you have stayed exactly the same size.

  • Feeling lost, tired, or uninspired in work you love

A quiet flatness in work that used to feel meaningful, even though you still believe in it.

Restorative conversation and body-based session addressing therapist burnout at Word of Mouth
Your Visit

What a restorative visit for burnout looks like

1

Intentional Attunement check-in

Every session opens with our signature check-in, a brief conversation that locates where the week's weight has landed, shoulders, jaw, chest, or breath. You do not have to conceptualize it for us. You just have to say where it is.

2

Body-based work takes over

Reiki, breathwork, and gentle movement address the physiological layer where conversation stops. No clinical framing, no intake paperwork. You come as a client, not as your own therapist.

3

A slow, unhurried integration

The session closes gently, often with tea and a few quiet minutes to reorient. Nothing about the close feels rushed back into your next hour.

4

Coaching, if and when you want it

For therapists who want an ongoing arc rather than a single visit, coaching conversation on boundaries and sustainable practice is available through our dedicated programs.

Reiki, breathwork, and coaching at Word of Mouth are complementary practices. They do not diagnose, treat, or replace professional mental health care, clinical supervision, or your own therapy.

Why It Helps

How restorative work supports the helpers

Word of Mouth's holistic coaching and healing sessions were built with therapists, healers, and caregivers in mind, the people who spend their working hours holding space for everyone else.

Receive, without clinical framing

No intake paperwork, no need to translate your experience into clinical language. Your session is yours.

A nervous system that gets its turn

Reiki and breathwork support the shift out of a chronically activated state into genuine rest, the same shift you help clients find all week.

The whole self, in one container

Breath, body, energy, and coaching conversation happen together in a single session rather than as separate maintenance tasks.

Alongside your therapist, never instead

Coaching and reiki sit next to your own clinical care and supervision. We never ask you to leave either one at the door.

The Honest Take

Support built by people who understand your world

Jaime and Yonatan Elkayam are the married co-founders of Word of Mouth, Certified Usui Reiki Master Teachers with 10+ years supporting therapists, healers, and practitioners in Los Angeles. They are coaches and energy healing practitioners, not licensed mental health therapists, and they are clear about that distinction with every clinician who walks through their door. What they offer is a complement to your clinical training and your own care, not a substitute for either.

"As a licensed clinical mental health therapist as well as a Reiki practitioner for over two decades, my experience with Word of Mouth was profoundly nurturing as well as professional and poignant. I walked away both feeling wiser and calmer while also more present and uplifted."

Good Questions

Therapist burnout support, answered honestly

Questions clinicians and other helping professionals ask us most before their first visit.

No. Reiki, breathwork, and coaching at Word of Mouth are complementary wellness practices. They do not count toward supervision hours and they do not replace your own therapy or licensed mental health care. They sit alongside those relationships.
Yes. Receiving reiki, breathwork, or coaching from a non-licensed practitioner is comparable to receiving acupuncture or massage, and it is not a licensure or ethics concern. We do not diagnose, treat, or provide clinical services, and we are happy to clarify our scope on a call if your board has specific questions.
A visit opens with our Intentional Attunement check-in, moves into hands-on or hands-off reiki and breathwork, and closes with a slow, unhurried integration. Coaching conversation is available if you want it, but it is never required.
Rest matters, and it is often not enough on its own, because the depletion of therapist burnout lives in the nervous system rather than only in a lack of hours off. Reiki and breathwork work directly with that physiological layer, which is why many clients notice a difference that a weekend alone did not produce.
Most people notice a shift after the first visit. A more lasting change in how you carry the week's clinical weight tends to build across several visits, since the nervous system is learning a new baseline rather than responding to a single signal.
Yes. Therapists, coaches, bodyworkers, and caregivers make up a meaningful share of our practice. For an ongoing arc rather than a single visit, explore coaching for therapists or burnout recovery coaching.
