The Practice

What is reiki for emotional release, and who does it help?

Reiki can support the body in processing held emotional tension. It does not force emotional release or guarantee a specific outcome. What it does is create the conditions for nervous-system regulation, which allows emotional weight to move when the body is ready. "Trapped emotions" is a way of describing the body holding more than it knows how to put down; reiki works with that holding gently, without rushing it.

It tends to help people who feel lost, tired, or stuck carrying emotional weight that talking things through has not quite moved. The experience varies from person to person: some feel a shift the first time, others notice something subtler that builds over a few sessions. Reiki is a complementary practice. It works alongside therapy and medical care, not instead of it, and it does not diagnose or treat any condition.

Why It Works

How reiki supports emotional release

Reiki is a Japanese practice rooted in the idea that life-force energy flows through the body. When that flow is slowed by chronic stress, anxiety, grief, or emotional weight, tension can settle into the shoulders, jaw, and chest. A reiki session does not push a release. It works with the body's own tendency toward balance, supporting the nervous system's shift out of a braced, on-guard state.

  • Warmth and a deep exhale

Many clients feel warmth under the practitioner's hands, even when held slightly above the skin, followed by a spontaneous, involuntary exhale.

  • Subtle tears or a sudden lightness

Not dramatic sobbing, just eyes filling as a tension point releases, or a sensation of something heavy leaving the body.

  • Tingling in the chest, jaw, or shoulders

Specific areas that have been braced for a while often soften first, sometimes with a pulsing or tingling sensation.

  • A pattern, not a single event

None of this is required in any one session. Some people feel a shift right away; others notice it building over several visits.

Your Visit

What an emotional-release reiki session looks like

1

You arrive and settle

Private loft, warm light, tea if you want it. Your practitioner runs a brief check-in on what the body is holding before any hands are placed.

2

Reiki table work with sound

Jaime or Yonatan, or both, work through hand positions on or near the body, guided by what came up in the check-in. Sound instruments may be introduced to support the shift.

3

Breathwork brings it together

The final phase uses conscious breathing to help the body integrate. This is often where clients notice the breath finally drop to the belly, or the jaw unclench without being asked.

4

You close slowly

No jarring ending. Drink water, take your time, and let the quiet settle before you head home.

Many clients continue to feel the effect in the days after: a lighter mood, better sleep, or simply more room to breathe.

Good Questions

Reiki for emotional release in Los Angeles, answered

Honest answers about what release feels like, how reiki relates to therapy, and what to expect in a session.

It's both. "Trapped emotions" describes a real physical experience: tension that doesn't release on its own, a held breath, a braced jaw. Reiki supports the body in releasing that holding. Whether that involves tears, tingling, warmth, or just quiet lightness depends on you and on the session.
Clients commonly describe warmth under the hands, a spontaneous deep exhale, subtle tears, tingling in the chest or jaw, a sudden drop in tension in a specific area, or a felt sense of something lifting. Sometimes there's nothing during the session and the shift shows up the next day. There's no wrong response.
Reiki is not therapy and doesn't diagnose or treat mental health conditions. It works with a layer of experience conversation often can't reach directly: the body's held tension. Many clients use both. If you're in active therapy, reiki can sit alongside that work as a complement, never a replacement for licensed mental health care.
You stay fully clothed. Comfortable clothes are ideal. Hands rest gently on or just above the body at specific positions. Before any hands are placed, your practitioner runs a check-in to understand your preferences. Touch is always consent-driven, and you can ask for hands-off only at any time.
Many clients describe something after the first session: a lightness, a calmer nervous system, better sleep that night. Deeper emotional patterns often benefit from three to five sessions over several weeks. You're never committed to a package, and one session is a fine place to start.
