Reiki for grief support in West Hollywood: a held space to move through loss

If you are feeling lost, tired, or stuck after a loss, reiki for grief at our West Hollywood studio may offer a calm, body-centered space to move through it. Certified Reiki Master Teachers Jaime and Yonatan Elkayam work with grief held in the chest, shoulders, and nervous system, alongside your grief counseling, never in place of it. Sessions blend hands-on reiki, breathwork, and grounding so you can feel lighter, more present, and less frozen in bereavement.

The Practice

How can reiki help with grief?

Reiki may support the body's natural grief response by settling the nervous system and creating space for what feels stuck or frozen. It is a complementary practice, not a substitute for grief counseling, therapy, or medical care. It works alongside those, reaching the places conversation sometimes cannot.

Grief lives in the body. The chest tightens. The shoulders will not drop. Tears will not come, or they will not stop. Reiki energy work is gentle enough to meet all of that without asking you to narrate or relive the loss. Many clients report feeling calmer and lighter after a session, not over the grief, but less alone inside it.

If you are in crisis or need immediate support, please contact a licensed mental health professional or call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).

What Clients Bring

Grief patterns a session can meet

Gentle, body-based support for what grief leaves behind, as a complement to grief counseling or therapy.

Body-Held Heaviness

Grief often settles in the chest, jaw, and shoulders, a weight that will not lift. Reiki energy work may help your body soften that held tension.

Emotional Freeze

Sometimes grief makes us feel flat, numb, or stuck. The crying will not come, or it comes at the wrong times. A session offers a quiet container for what has been locked inside.

Nervous-System Overwhelm

Anxiety, poor sleep, and exhaustion often accompany loss. Reiki may support nervous-system regulation, helping you feel grounded enough to move through the day.

Your Visit

What a grief-focused session looks like

1

You arrive and settle

Share as much or as little as you want about what you are carrying. There is no pressure to narrate the loss. Your practitioner listens and holds it.

2

Breathe and ground

A brief breathwork opening helps your nervous system come out of fight-or-flight before the reiki work begins. You stay fully clothed throughout.

3

Hands-on or hands-off reiki

Your practitioner works with the body's energy system, often focusing on the heart, solar plexus, and shoulders, for 60 to 75 minutes.

4

Close and ground

The session ends gently, with time to reorient before you leave. Your practitioner shares what they noticed and what to watch for after.

Grief does not resolve in one session. Most clients find a series of visits over weeks supports more sustained ease. Drink water, rest if you can, and be gentle with yourself the rest of the day.

In Their Words

What clients say

★★★★★

As a licensed clinical mental health therapist as well as a Reiki practitioner for over two decades, I must say that my experience with Word of Mouth was profoundly nurturing as well as professional and poignant. I walked away both feeling wiser and calmer while also more present and uplifted.

I will recommend them to any friends that come to me feeling lost, confused, tired, depressed, stuck and uninspired. They will easily know which route to take and which tools and practices to share.

Good Questions

Reiki for grief in Los Angeles, answered

Honest answers about bereavement, timing, and what a grief-focused session can and cannot do.

Reiki does not tell you to rise above your grief or reframe it into something positive. It meets the body where it is. Spiritual bypassing would be using any modality to skip the grief. Reiki is more likely to bring what has been frozen up to the surface where it can move. Many clients find it deepens their ability to actually feel and process, not avoid.
Yes. Reiki is complementary to grief counseling and does not interfere with therapeutic work. It is worth telling your grief counselor you are adding reiki. Most are supportive, and some actively recommend it.
Yes. There is no required waiting period. Some clients come in the first week of a loss. Others come months or years later when the grief has settled into something chronic. Both are appropriate.
Tears are welcome. So is silence. So is falling asleep. We have seen all of it. The session is a space without judgment for whatever your body needs to do.
Most clients notice something in the first session, even if it is just a sense of settling. Grief is not a linear process, and neither is the work. We do not promise a timeline, but we do not push more sessions than serve you.
That happens. Grief can make the body numb and hard to read from the inside. Your practitioner is tracking what they observe. Something is often happening even when it does not register as dramatic. Stillness is also a valid outcome.
